Bio of Dominic Bercier
Classically-trained artist Dominic Bercier is the author-cartoonist-writer-illustrator-designer and publisher-principal behind Mirror Comics Studios, a boutique comic book and graphic novel production and publishing entity from Ottawa, Canada, where he produces stories of young heroes losing, longing, striving for and restoring the things they’ve lost... be they love or lives or souls, plunging characters into emotionally charged magical initiations that test their wits and their hearts to the core.
Bercier’s art and design has been featured in books, comic books, graphic novels, CD art, websites, newspapers, magazines, menus, videos, film productions, ads, zines, children’s books, bandes dessinées and more.
Attending Ottawa’s De La Salle HS in an advanced visual arts program earns him the Visual Arts Medal in 1994 and the Artistic Excellence Award, the school’s highest artistic honor, in 1996. He also creates a coinciding semester and trimester class schedule for DLS which is now used by school boards across Canada. During his art school years in Toronto, studying drawing and painting and illustration at Ontario College of Art & Design [OCAD], Dominic is an assistant-penciler on comic books for Top Cow, Image, Dark Horse and more.
From 2010 to 2015, Dominic is co-founder of Mirror Comics where he serves as president and publisher and releases his solo efforts Ghost King: A Book of Changes [based on the Chinese Book of Changes or I Ching], as well as Like Never Before & Like Never Again [a comic book written and drawn in 24 hours], and Treadwell [a deeply personal journey into a dream], the latter being nominated in the 2015 Aurora Awards [for Best SFF Graphic Novel by a Canadian] and also nominated in the 2015 Joe Shuster Awards [specifically, The Gene Day Award for Best Self-Published Comic by a Canadian].
Bercier collaborates on several other projects, like the children’s book Hold My Hand, and graphic novels Mission Arizona and The Bird Caller, and oversees projects by a number of emerging writers and artists, including Zomkeys, Big Box Apocalypse, and a comic book adaptation of the Evanescence hit song Bring Me To Life.
Mirror Comics is re-branded as Mirror Comics Studios [#MCSbooks] in 2015, where Bercier freelances with Canadian publishers and cultural groups, and is creating and releasing his epic graphic novel series opus, SIGNAL Saga, through MCS.
Recently, Chapterhouse Publishing’s digital-first comic book series, True Patriot Presents [which features his collaborative effort ‘Dominion Jack: Mob Mentality’ with writer Jack Briglio], is nominated for best webcomic in the 2018 Joe Shuster Awards.
SIGNAL Saga #0 : PanGaea and the Key of Mirrari by Dominic Bercier and published by Mirror Comics Studios in 2017 was nominated in the Best Graphic Novel Category of the 2018 Aurora Awards.
